SPRING BREAK IS HERE!

After last recess, we went to the gym to watch a basketball game of some teachers VS. some Grade 4/5 students!   At the end of the day, the Grade 4/5 fundraising team announced that they made over $1000 this week, which they will be donating to DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS!   Thank you to everyone who bought treats throughout the week and helped support this cause at the same time!

Primary colours and Mission Impossible

For Spirit Week, each class was able to decide how they wanted to dress today. Our class decided to dress in primary colours (we thought everyone would have some red, yellow, and/or blue clothes).  We did a little math, too, when we took our photos.....
All this week, the gym has been set up with a Mission Impossible activity. The mission was.....to complete all the activities and get to the end and ring the gong....and then you were qualified to be  secret agent! The kids really enjoyed this special activity. A big thank you goes out to our gym teachers for organizing it!

Sharing Time
Everyone enjoyed watching the movie "Finding Nemo" in the gym this afternoon.

Reminder that tomorrow is Backwards Day!

TWIN DAY

Today was TWIN day.... as part of spirit week!  In a few cases, we borrowed the twin from the other Kindergarten class -- or the office!

  Mr. Miller and his twin....
This young man wanted to share what he knew about ten.
He says he knows that 4 + 3 + 3 makes 10.  He also said that he knows that... 3 + 3 + 4 makes 10, too!  He even showed his thoughts using unifix blocks! WOW!
We have been learning about the Food Guide Rainbow. Today we identified some food pictures, and sorted them into the 4 food groups, then glued them onto a Food Guide Rainbow!
Sharing Time.... show and tell us about something that has your favourite primary colour on it.

Star of the Week

Our Star of the Week told us all about herself yesterday. Today we did a shared writing activity as we recalled things we knew about her.
People in our class with a sports shirt on for spirit week.
Today the power went out in the school during the lunch break.  After lunch recess, our class moved to another little room - with a window letting in lots of daylight - to do some work -- as our classroom is very dark with only the one little window that faces a brick wall!  Within half an hour, the lights were back on and we were able to go back to our own classroom.
We played the game TWISTER this afternoon.  Lots of giggles!

This Week At School

Every Friday we talk about what we did at school this week. St. Patrick's Day fun was on most people's minds this week! After we brainstorm our ideas, each person writes a story to take home and share with someone. We keep these stories in our T.W.A.S. books (TWAS =(This Week At School). The kids are at various writing stages. We have talked about matching our picture to our story, using appropriate colours in our drawings, putting finger spaces between our words, and putting something at the end of our sentence. Students are encouraged to use words that they already know (sight words) and to print all the sounds they hear in unfamiliar words. Here's what some of the kids independently wrote about today.
"We had a leprechaun in our classroom."
"We had leprechauns and we tried to catch him but he was too fast!"

"A leprechaun went to our room left some green footprints!"
"We ate magic powder and milk. It was fun."

Some of our St. Patrick's Day activities.....
